Reblogged from kareninhonolulu:
With the sound of the conch shell blowing the May Day court is called.
All of the volunteers at Bishop Museum are gathered to watch the May Day Court proceed. We are invited here to be entertained and served lunch in thanks for our service. The first of May had been called Lei Day since 1929 at which time it was started to keep the tradition of the Lei alive.
I have a post still in draft form May Day is Lei Day in Hawaii. Slowly I'm leaking all of its content into other posts that I'm more satisfied with. Karen is a fellow docent at The Bishop Museum. She is a much better photographer with a much better camera. Hence, enjoy the reblog of her post.

I also just noticed that she has a picture of me in the tent. I’m behind the woman in purple. You can see my green sweater over my ecru top. How fun is that?
Oh cool –I saw you. It felt like Where’s Waldo for a minute searching through all the people.
What a beautiful celebration! Everything is so sunny and colorful. Once again, I am so jealous of you that you live in Hawaii!
Where’s Waldo is right! It was a fun time. The Bishop is closed on Tuesdays. So when May Day/ Lei Day fell on a Tuesday…well, you just gotta have a party!
Such a spectacularly beautiful woman in the first picture. (No, I wasn’t looking at the guy’s abs…much) Now I want to live in Hawaii and stroll into my backyard for some plumeria blossoms and put them in my hair. Jus dug up a photo of me at 25ish in an orange and pink halter mu-mu. I loved that dress…wore it to pieces…wonder which island that represents. Much love.
Orange is Lana’i, and pink is Maui. Here’s an informative link: http://hush4444.hubpages.com/hub/May-Day-Is-Lei-Day-In-Hawaii
Mel is trying to get us a castle in Ireland. I think we need a writer’s retreat on Hawai’i Island.
Much Aloha to you in BC.
