Writerly Wednesdays are devoted to all things writerly. I may share a favorite writerly nook or share some new found tool, gadget, widget or app. Today I’m trying out some new features of Twitter and Storify while shining a spotlight on Maui Thriller Author, Toby Neal and her Lei Crime Series.-
Please feel free to sign in with Twitter. You can still retweet, favor, and make all your favorite Twitter moves.

Not only did Toby Neal help us at HICM launch our weekly Friday Noontime author Twitterviews, but she got some incredible press that day in the #MauiNews!
-
1st, @tobywneal congrats on being in this morning’s paper! #HICM
-
@tobywneal how did it feel to wake up to your beautiful pic and your book covers gracing Maui News? #HICM
-
-
Welcome to our Twitterview with thriller writer Toby Neal. Please introduce yourselves. #HICM
-
So, I’m a haole girl from Hawaii, &therapist and writer. mauinews.com/page/content.d… it’s all there in the Maui News article. #HICM
-
One of the reasons we at HICM chose the Friday Noon time was that authors frequently offer free book deals for the weekend and announce them around 5p EST which turns out to be kaukau time in Hawaii.
-
RT @LaraBrittWrites: 1st, @tobywneal in this morning’s paper! #HICM Yeah amazing timing when #BloodOrchids is free! amazon.com/Blood-Orchids-Cr…
-
I paid full price for all four of your books without regret. Free is a great way to get a taste of your work. Be back for more. #HICM
-
Q1: How did you go from being a therapist to mystery-thriller writer? How does your background in psychology help? #HICM
-
RT @tobywneal: I blog Living a Creative Life in Hawaii at tobyneal.net/. I like to show readers behind the scenes look at life.#HICM
-
I’m curious about that too. I love the depth of your characters. I was wondering how much of that is from being a therapist #HICM
-
@TakeAimNow @HawaiiCM I am inspired by struggles of ordinary people to overcome their wounds. #LeiCrimeSeries explores that. #HICM
-
Lei has some struggles to overcome but she is anything but ordinary! #HICM
-
@LaraBrittWrites Being a therapist is central to my ongoing character dev. arc with Lei Texeira, wounded warrior cop.Shes an #arechype #HICM
-
I love how the tough gal came from such a vulnerable place #HICM
-
Loved the unpeeling of layers to discover Lei’s wounds in book 1. How common are suppressed memories? #HICM
-
@VeraStone Not that common, though people often try NOT to remember #sexualabuse. #HICM #Lecrimeseries
-
Lei sounds like someone I’d like to know. Looking forward to reading. Should I start with book one or does it matter? #HICM
-
@writecrites Definitely – Book 1, Book 1, Book 1! #HICM
-
-
@SoPupuka after agent retired, I decided to #selfpublish cuz I knew people would love Lei when/if they could meet her. #LeiCrimeSeries #HICM
-
-
@HawaiiCM Whether you’re self or trad pub, all authors have to promote books these days. I wrote this amazon.com/Building-Author-… to help #HICM
-
I know a lot of authors who are shy about Twitter especially. What advice would you give them? #HICM
-
RT @tobywneal: @thesaturnbull @LaraBrittWrites Build Twitter by following people you like and Paying It Forward–(PIF) RT’s, mentions, interactions.#HICM
-
@tobywneal, I love your blog, you’re fearless about topics. Any advice about what authors should focus on in their blogs/social media? #HICM
-
@mistysanico Every blogger has to find their own voice. I write about living a creative life in #Hawaii #HICM tobyneal.net/
-
@mistysanico I also choose to be pretty open and personal in my blog. It works for who I am–my persona in blog & in person match. #HICM
-
@mistysanico And that has to do with my choices. #authenticity is important to me personally & professionally. #Blogging #HICM
-
-
I’m also a fan of @thecreativepenn. She went the same route with her thrillers but now is going hybrid. Is that in your future too? #HICM
-
@LaraBrittWrites @thecreativepenn Gr8 question! and YES. I have a #YA survival set on #Lanai with my agent, & a #romance #suspense #HICM
-
@VeraStone That’s my latest post, 7 Publishing Predictions & Planning for them. tobyneal.net/2012/12/31/sev… #HICM
-
@LaraBrittWrites #Blogging confidence comes with practice. Mine evolved with time. I discovered I can write #humor on my blog! #HICM
-
@LaraBrittWrites @VeraStone I also think #blogging is important as its a “calling card” that shows your skills as a #writer. #HICM
-
If blogging is your calling card, what do you consider tweeting? #HICM
-
RT @VeraStone: If blogging is your calling card, what do you consider tweeting? #HICM <cocktail party!
mingling and sharing #twitter -
-
RT @LaraBrittWrites: Therapeutic Thought of the day Fan @tobywneal #HICM <That evolved from my little #therapyroom posts! (chk hashtag)
-
Q4: What are the top 3 things writers should do to build and strengthen their platform? #HICM
-
-
-
-
RT @tobywneal: @LaraBrittWrites #Blogging is a long haul.Experiment first & find ur voice. Choose a #blogging theme u can sustain or u’ll burn out. #HICM
-
-
Other writers who influence me are @BadRedheadMedia for (social Media) @hollyrob for writing style #HICM

Rachel Thompson @BadRedheadMedia badredheadmedia.com/
Molly Greene molly-greene.com/
Holly Robinson authorhollyrobinson.com/ #blogs #HICM -
@LaraBrittWrites No announcements, Broken Ferns doesn’t have exact release date yet. TY for asking! HICM February 2013 is best I can do.
-
Well, we’ve run out of time. Thank you, @tobywneal, for sharing your wisdom for us today. Best of luck to you in all your endeavors. #HICM
-
RT @LaraBrittWrites: RT @TakeAimNow: This was a lot of fun. Gotta run. Catch yall later. Cheers! #HICMaloha
-
Mahalo Nui Loa, @tobywneal Great advice. Anything we missed? We will be Storifying in about an hour so feel free to add to the archive #HICM
-
With all of the past year’s sturm und drang about sock-puppets, author book review revokes, star-padding, et al, I have been a bit hesitant to enter the book review fray. I am still struggling to find my footing there. While I do, I figure that the author Twitterview and blog posting of the Storified version is my best way forward. What are your thoughts on book reviews, Toby Neal’s Lei Crime Series, or anything else that strikes your fancy. Whether you are reading this via Storify or Writing Space at larabritt.com, please take time to share your thoughts. And of course we love retweets as well.

Lori, I found this Twitter exchange extremely helpful. Thanks for sharing. It was like joining you and Ms. Neal at a “cocktail party.” Thanks!
Thanks for stopping in, Julia. Join in in real time as well. We started our weekly tradition of Twitterviewing authors on Fridays noon HST which is 5p Eastern. Wednesdays are business oriented and Mondays are nonprofit concerns, but you know there is a lot of overlap in categories. Today is going to be best practices with a sidebar on safety/security.
What an interesting idea for a blog! Loving it!! I’m following you.
If you have time, we’d love to have you come and link up to the Aloha Friday Blog Hop if you haven’t already! (Thank you so very much if you’ve already linked up, I truly appreciate it!!)
Come and link up and celebrate the coming weekend with us!
Aloha,
