Play-Date Thursdays are when just about anything can happen. Thursdays are my lead in to my weekend. And I don’t mean that I pre-sort and pre-soak for Saturday morning washing, either. It’s the day I think of all the fun little surprises that I can sneak into the must-do list.
But you say, “What’s the fun if it’s pre-planned?” Ah, you must not be a parent yet. Couples with kids have long understood the importance of Date Night.
That’s not to say you can’t be open to serendipity on a whim of spontaneity. All I’m saying is that I know that FUN IS ALL AROUND all of the time, but my system isn’t always primed to take full advantage.
I also know if I have some fun planned, it triples in enjoyment. That’s 3Xs! Because, I get to anticipate it coming before it gets here, to experience it while it’s here, and to savor the memory of it as it fades into past tense.
So all week long, now, my readers get to savor the anticipation of Play-Date Thursdays as my special send off to their weekend.
And speaking of thank you’s, I would like to thank fellow bloggers, E. B. Pike and Cheryl Reif, for giving me this week’s inspiration. And of course, Margie Hendricks is owed my gratitude for bringing Sunshine into everyone’s life.
E. B. Pike and I are involved with Robert Lee Brewer’s My Name Is Not Bob (aka #MNINB) April Platform Challenge. It’s been fun. It’s been grueling. It’s been overwhelming. So when one of us shows some spark of creativity in meeting all of the elements of our challenge, the whole tribe of #MNINBers need to celebrate and share to all of our fledgling followers.
Take the challenge: Sunshine Award Contest. Can You Be Sunny? Enter to Win
I urge you all to head on over to Writerlious and check out E. B.’s challenge. She is bestowing the prized Sunshine Award this coming Sunday. It is not too late to enter.
But even if you aren’t feeling particularly gamely yourself, you need to check out the comment section to see the amazing folks who gave it a whirl. Hint: You may be familiar with a certain someone’s writerly style already. Tune in Monday to see if I get to be a “winnah-winnah-chicken-dinnah,” as they say in my neighborhood.
Who Do You Write Like?
Follow my lead over to Cheryl Reif Writes! In this mini-post, Cheryl shares one of her many gadget finds that make a writer’s life so fun. This was the kibble treat that got me nibbling on the rest of her candy box of a website. Now I get a treat in my email inbox everyday of the week! How fun is that?!
Me? Well, if you read down her comment section, you will find that I am writing a memoir Stephen King could feel akin to. Ah, childhood! When I wrote my DJ blog posts for WDBX, I was kindred with David Foster Wallace.
And as a final, thank you for taking the trip with me so far, I will leave you with one of my favorite versions of that ol’ standard. Sing it, Miss Margie!
What brings sunshine into your life? What do you do to make sure that some fun gets priority on your to-do list? Anything fun and quirky (PG-rated for this blog, pls) that brings you joy? If you find sites I recommended enjoyable or helpful, put a little sunshine in their life and tell them so.
